Description

Reversed Phase C4 HPLC

Hawach C4 HPLC Column is a reversed phase column packed with high-purity silica bonded with butyl (C4) functional groups. It provides moderate hydrophobic retention, excellent selectivity and reliable recovery for proteins, peptides and other large biomolecules.

Compared with C18 and C8 columns, the shorter alkyl chain of C4 results in weaker hydrophobic interaction, making it especially suitable for samples that require reduced retention and improved recovery of biological compounds.

Available in particle sizes: 3μm, 5μm, 10μm | Pore sizes: 120Å, 300Å | Compatible with HPLC, UHPLC and LC-MS systems.

Key Features

  • Butyl bonded silica stationary phase
  • Moderate hydrophobic retention -reduces excessive retention of large biomolecules
  • Excellent protein and peptide recovery -ideal for biomolecule separation
  • Multiple pore sizes -120Å and 300Å for different molecular weight ranges
  • Flexible particle sizes -3μm, 5μm, 10μm
  • High reproducibility -advanced packing technology ensures consistent performance
  • Broad compatibility -works with conventional HPLC, UHPLC and LC-MS

Why Choose C4 HPLC Column?

Choose C4 when C18 provides excessive retention or insufficient recovery:

  • Better recovery of proteins and peptides
  • Reduced interaction with large biomolecules
  • Improved peak shape for biological samples
  • More efficient separation of complex samples

FAQs

What is the difference between C4 and C18?

C4 has a shorter butyl chain (4 carbons) vs C18 (18 carbons), resulting in lower hydrophobicity and weaker retention. C4 is preferred for proteins and large biomolecules where C18 may cause excessive retention or poor recovery.

When should I choose C4 over C8?

Choose C4 for larger biomolecules (proteins, large peptides) that require minimal hydrophobic interaction and maximum recovery. C8 is better suited for peptides and small molecules.

Which pore size should I choose?

120Å for small peptides and routine analysis; 300Å for proteins and large biomolecules to ensure full pore accessibility.

Which particle size is best for LC-MS?

3μm with 2.1mm ID is ideal for LC-MS applications, providing high efficiency and low flow rates.

What pH range is recommended?

pH 2-8 for optimal performance and column lifetime.

Do you offer custom dimensions?

Yes – custom lengths and IDs available on request (MOQ applies). Contact OEM team for details.
