C8 HPLC Columns – Universal, Low pH & Fluorine Phases
Description
Hawach C8 HPLC Columns (octylsilane) are reversed-phase stationary phases with moderate hydrophobicity – less retentive than C18 but more than C4/C2. Designed for LC/MS applications, pharmaceutical, environmental, and bioanalytical method development, they provide excellent peak shape for acidic, basic, and neutral compounds.
Three Specialized C8 Chemistries for Method Development
- C8-Universal: Standard C8, wide pH range (1.5-10), double end-capped, ideal for general method development and LC/MS.
- C8-Low pH: Stable at pH 0.5-8, 100% aqueous mobile phase compatible, perfect for low-pH conditions and highly polar analytes.
- C8-Fluorine: Unique selectivity for halogenated aromatics (F, Cl, Br), orthogonal to conventional C8, for specialized separations.
Why Hawach C8 HPLC Columns Rank for Method Development
- Three distinct selectivities for orthogonal separation
- Wide particle size range: 3, 5, 10 μm; column diameters 2.1-8 mm; lengths 30-300 mm
- 300Å pore size option for large biomolecules
- Double end-capped bonding reduces silanol interactions, ensures sharp peaks
- Compatible with major LC/MS systems: Agilent, Waters, Shimadzu, Thermo

FAQ
What is the difference between C8 and C18?
C8 has a shorter alkyl chain (8 carbons) than C18 (18 carbons), resulting in less hydrophobic retention. C8 is often faster for strongly retained compounds.
Which C8 phase should I start with for method development?
C8-Universal is the most versatile. If your method requires low pH (<2) or 100% aqueous, choose C8-Low pH. For halogenated compounds, try C8-Fluorine.
Can I use 100% acetonitrile or methanol?
Yes, but avoid abrupt changes from high aqueous to high organic – use gradient.
Are these columns compatible with LC/MS?
Yes. Low bleed, 3 μm and 2.1 mm ID are ideal for LC/MS.
Do you offer guard columns?
Yes. Standard guard cartridges and holders are available for all column IDs.
What is the maximum pressure for 3 μm columns?
~6000 psi (400 bar) – suitable for UHPLC and conventional HPLC.
Do you offer custom dimensions (non-standard lengths/IDs)?
Yes. Minimum order quantity applies – contact OEM team.
