Medium Flow Filter Paper

Medium flow filter paper is between the fast filter paper and the slow filter paper.

As we all know, fast filter paper is loose and the spots are easy to spread. Slow filter paper, spots are not easy to spread. Medium speed filter paper is somewhere in between.

Fast filter paper is suitable for samples with large Rf value and developers with high viscosity, and slow filter paper is suitable for samples with small Rf value and developers with low viscosity, but the development time is longer, medium speed filter paper is between the two.

Features

  1. Pore size: Medium flow filter paper has a pore size that allows for moderate filtration of particles. It is designed to filter particles that are larger than those that can be filtered by fine filter paper, but smaller than those that can be filtered by coarse filter paper.
  2. Thickness: Thicker than fine filter paper, but not as thick as coarse filter paper. Its thickness provides a large surface area for filtration, allowing for efficient particle separation.
  3. Material: Made from cellulose fibers or a blend of cellulose and synthetic fibers. The material is chemically treated to enhance its filtration properties.
  4. Filtration rate: Has a moderate filtration rate, making it suitable for applications that require a balance between particle retention and filtration speed.
  5. Compatibility: Medium flow filter paper is compatible with a wide range of chemicals and solvents, making it suitable for use in various laboratory applications.
  6. Applications: Commonly used for clarifying liquids, separating solids from liquids, and filtering gases. It is also used in food and beverage testing, environmental analysis, and pharmaceutical research.
  7. Grades: Medium flow filter paper is available in different grades, each with specific filtration properties, such as retention capacity and particle retention size. The grades range from 1 to 4, with grade 1 being the finest and grade 4 being the coarsest.

HAWACH’s medium-speed filter paper includes BIO 1, 2, 40, and 91, which correspond to Whatman Grade 1, 2, 40, and 91 respectively.
