General Introduction of Pipette Tips, Materials, Packages and Classifications

As one of the most frequently used experimental instruments in biological research, pipettes, and their tips are in great demand. At present, there are many manufacturers producing pipette tips. How to choose a suitable product for us in the face of many brands and models of tip products? HAWACH suggests we can buy the tips from the following three aspects: tip material, package, and specifications.

General Introduction

  • Purpose: Pipette tips are designed to fit the ends of micropipettes and provide a sterile, precise, and controlled medium for liquid transfer.
  • Usage: They are used in a wide range of laboratory procedures, including sample preparation, reagent dispensing, and chemical or biological analysis.

Pipette Tip Material

HAWACH pipette tip is made of pure PP material without a plasticizer release agent, otherwise, there will be dissolved substances that will affect the experimental results; the dimensional accuracy is required to be high, otherwise, it will lead to poor sealing consistency; the inner wall needs to be smooth without flow marks, no gap burrs, otherwise it will lead to inaccurate drainage; clean and free of biological contamination, it is required to be manufactured in an ultra-clean environment. Tips for liquid handling in pharmaceutical testing systems require not only electrical conductivity but also excellent physical properties as well as chemical resistance.

Pipette Tip Package

The packaging is mainly bagged and boxed. In recent years, a new form of packaging has also emerged, which is refill (5, 8, or 10-plate tips are stacked in a tower shape, which can quickly put the tips into the suction box head without touching the tips).

Classification of Pipette Tips

Different types of pipette tips are available in HAWACH, such as the standard tips, filter tips, low adsorption tips, no heat source tips, as well as non-sterilized tips for general use. Moreover, HAWACH supplies 8-12 channels adjustable pipette, with the volume ranging from 10ul to 10ml.

Standard tips are the most widely used tips, and common tips can be used for almost all pipetting operations, which are the most economical category of tips.

Filtered Tip

The filtered tip, it’s suitable for customers: hospital laboratory PCR laboratory, central laboratory, liver disease centers, third-party testing institutions, scientific research institutes, universities, pharmaceutical factories, reagent manufacturers, CDC, inspection and quarantine, etc.

Filtered Tip Features

  • 1. The filter element effectively forms a protective structure between the pipette and the sample to ensure the safety of the sample; it reduces the harm to the operator caused by the residual gas in the gun during the pipetting process and improves the repeatability of the experiment.
  • 2. The pore size of the filter element is small and uniform, which ensures the accuracy and repeatability of sample aspiration.
  • 3. The tip is made of medical-grade polypropylene, and the filter element is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, which has good hydrophobicity.
  • 4. No coating design, will not contaminate the sample and can be sterilized by high temperature and high pressure.
  • 5. Provide aseptic boxing and ordinary plastic bag packaging.

As we know the features of the filtered tip, but when to use it? It will be used in contamination-sensitive molecular biology applications. Filter tips help reduce the possibility of smoke formation and prevent aerosol contamination, thereby protecting pipette shafts from cross-contamination. Plus, it is able to prevent PCR contamination with sample carry-over from the pipette.

Low Adsorption Tip

With surface hydrophobic treatment, the low adsorption tip can leave more residue in the tip and reduce tension. With wide-mouth tips, they are ideal for aspirating viscous materials, genomic DNA, and cell culture fluids.

  • 1. Reduce the loss of precious samples caused by the need to pre-wet the tips during the test
  • 2. It can be used for important procedures that require high precision for micro pipetting
  • 3. It can be applied to the pipetting of samples containing molecules that are easily adsorbed on the surface of the tip, such as DNA, proteins, peptides, etc.
